The Tipsy Texan

Everything is better in Texas, even cocktails, or so David Alan would have you think in his Tipsy Texan: Spirits and Cocktails from the Lone Star State (Andrews McMeel, $20). This colorful drinks book features Texas-centric drinks like the Hill Country Collins and the Texecutioner, but also delightful variations on perennial favorites such as his Persimmon Margarita, shown above. Alan is a bartender who has been chronicling the Lone Star State’s cocktail scene on his Web site,, since 2007. Scattered throughout the book are profiles of some of the bigger names in the state’s liquor scene, like Tito Beveridge of Tito’s Handmade Vodka and Paula Angerstein of Paula’s Texas Spirits.
