On September 15, three of Fuel Up to Play 60’s Ambassadors were asked to attend a meeting with the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition!

Anisha, Tyler and Shea got to meet and present to some of the nation’s most important health and wellness decision makers, including Let’s Move! Executive Director and President Obama’s Senior Policy Advisor for Nutrition Policy, Sam Kass!

Getting the opportunity to attend the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition events at the White House in Washington, DC was a once in a lifetime trip that I will never forget. Along with Tyler and Shea, I participated in a videotaping for Let’s Move! and two roundtables that discussed nutrition and leadership. Prepping for my speaking parts and interviews involved coaching and advice from my Fuel Up to Play 60 team, and I’ve definitely learned how to present myself professionally through these learning experiences. Getting to build connections with working adults, athletes, and the staff of health organizations was extremely rewarding and their words of wisdom will motivate me for years to come. Of course I couldn’t leave without taking away new ideas for my school, and I’ll be reporting back all the new health initiatives that I plan on implementing with the Student Ambassadors and Program Advisors I work with. Overall, I had an amazing time being a part of this event, and it was a great honor to represent Fuel Up to Play 60 in doing so.

It was such an amazing experience to travel to Washington, DC for the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition. I was very honored to be picked for Fuel Up to Play 60. My favorite part of the experience was recording the videos for Let’s Move!. I felt like I was in a movie. I also really liked getting to meet so many cool athletes, like Alonzo Mourning and Dominique Dawes. When I participated in the phone call recording with them, they were really nice and made me feel important. Everyone was kind and was really interested in what I had to say about how important it is for kids to know about The Learning Connection and being healthy so they can be good students. I will always remember this experience and hope that I have more opportunities to keep helping kids and adults be more active and healthy.

The best part of this experience was meeting all of the President’s Council and just to go on this trip to Washington DC!

Stay tuned for more from this event, including fun videos with the athletes and ambassadors!
