Rosh Hashanah Recipes and Menus

Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, begins Wednesday night. And if you’re observing the holiday, chances are, you’ve already got dinner plans in place–whether it’s as a host or as a guest. But in the off chance that you’re still looking for something delicious to add to your meal, we’ve got numerous last-minute recipes (and menus) worth considering. Round challah, of course, is traditional, as is honey cake. Brisket and tsimmes, too. For something perhaps completely different, check out chef Yotam Ottolenghi’s Middle Eastern-inspired Rosh Hashanah menu. You’ll find symbolic ingredients used in unexpected–and very delicious–ways: Panfried Sea Bass with Harissa and Rose; Roast Chicken with Saffron, Hazelnuts, and Honey; and Apple and Olive Oil Cake with Maple Icing. In search, still, of something else? Take inspiration from Persian Rosh Hashanah seder, chef David Waltuck’s ode to the season’s best produce, and Joan Nathan’s French-Jewish menu.
