Marzipan Delights

On my latest visit to an old Brooklyn neighborhood Italian bakery, Fortunato Brothers, I discovered that someone is getting seriously creative with the marzipan. To capture the colors of summer, they’ve made these sugary oysters, clams, and shrimp, along with their standard lineup of fruits and vegetables. These bakery-made treats get the fancy airbrush treatment, but homemade can be just as tasty. This Five-Minute Marzipan recipe from last year’s Liddabit Sweets Candy Cookbook. While many people may think of the almond treat as a staple of the Christmas holiday, it’s actually a perfect summer project, as it only needs a mixer. No baking required! Imagine the creative shapes you and your kids can come up with! (Photos: Sara Bonisteel)
